To all who are mothers (and everyone else), I wish you a beautiful and loving day! I promised to share with you information on the “Seven Mothers” according to the ancient Vedic culture from India.
Vedic culture is based on the ancient scriptures of India, primarily Srimad-Bhagavatam, a multi-volume work centered around God and our relationship with Him. There is so much spiritual wisdom to glean from this work. It really describes a whole universe of knowledge (The word “veda” actually means knowledge). So here is a short outline of the seven mothers who are meant to be loved and cherished:
- Your Own Mother: She gave birth to you and raised you, making sure you were clean, fed, dressed, safe, warm and happy. She worries about you and wants the best for you.
- Mother Cow: The cow is considered our mother because she gives us milk just like our own mothers. From her milk comes good things like butter, yogurt and cream. She is kind and gentle.
- The Nurse (or Nanny): She helps your mother take care of you, giving her time, energy and affection.
- The Queen: Ruling over a kingdom alongside the king, she is meant to love all in the land as she loves her own children.
- The Brahmana’s Wife: The brahmanas were the priestly class in society, and were trained in the scriptures and religious practices. Their wives were also educated in this way and meant to help guide the people in spiritual life.
- The Guru’s Wife: The guru is a spiritual teacher or guide who instructs his disciples in carrying out religious duties and developing their love for God. The wife of the guru cares for them as her own children.
- Mother Earth: The Earth gives all her riches– fruits, vegetables, grains, flowers, jewels, water, honey–so generously.
I hope this knowledge inspires you to appreciate your own mother and the other mothers around you who care for you!
