So on this day of love, I’d like to share a book on love: La La Anthony’s The Love Playbook. I had never heard of La La Anthony before I picked up this book on the new arrivals shelf at the library. She is the star of VH1’s hit series La La’s Full Court Life. She has had a career working in radio and the music industry, and is married to NBA star Carmelo Anthony.
La La is really cool and down to earth, and isn’t afraid to share her family history and her experiences–both good and bad–in relationships. She’s learned a lot from her mistakes and gives good, practical advice.
The biggest lessons I got out of this book were (1), to stay true to yourself (“If you can’t be yourself with a man, you can’t be with that man”), and (2) that friendship is the most important part of any relationship because without it you don’t have much to build on.
What I’ve learned through my various experiences is that no one can love me more than I love myself. So my job is to make sure that I do that to the best of my ability. Because when you truly love yourself is when you’re open to having the best things in life come your way.
I also like that she works on instilling good values in her young son through her and her husband’s loving example. (“There is no amount of money that can replace peace and happiness, or your family.”)
